Welcome. If you’re new, this is the best place to begin.

My name is Mike. I spent ten years in the RAF and thirty more in air traffic control. I’m retired now, and I’m writing down the stories that stayed with me — while they’re still clear in my mind.

There’s a lot here already, so here’s where I’d suggest you start:

If you want to know where it all began:

Start with The Day I Got Caught at RAF Aldergrove — a childhood escapade during the Troubles that accidentally pointed me towards my entire career.

If you want RAF life at its most memorable:

Try RAF Marham — My First Posting for the chaos of being young and green, or Cowden Air Weapons Range for one of the most unusual postings I ever had.

If you want something that will make you laugh:

Two Flights North and a Very Different World — arriving at Saxa Vord in a car driven by a man who couldn’t see the road.

If you want the serious side of the job:

NERC: The Project That Was Already Late — six years, countless setbacks, and what it really takes to build something that matters.

Stories are added regularly. If you’d like to know when new ones land, hit the Follow button and they’ll come to you.
